This coffee comes from the Alta Mogiana micro-region in the southeast of Minas Gerais, one of Brazil’s leading coffee-growing areas, which accounts for half of the country’s production.

The name “Mogiana” originates from the railway system established in 1883, which provided crucial transport links for coffee producers, boosting the industry’s growth in the region.

The area is characterized by a tropical climate, with an average temperature of 21°C in summer and 17°C in winter. The coffee plantations are situated at altitudes ranging from 800 to 1000 meters.

The region has achieved a prestigious Denomination of Origin status. This certification guarantees that coffee labeled as Alta Mogiana reflects the exceptional quality and distinctive flavor profile of the region, known for its pronounced sweetness with notes of caramel and chocolate, complemented by hints of fruits and nuts.

The Alta Mogiana Specialty Coffee (AMSC) organization operates in the region, guiding and advising specialty coffee producers on bean quality and proper agricultural practices, while also preserving the identity of the local product.

This coffee has been processed at the Arara Azul station, one of the partners of COCAPIL. COCAPIL is a cooperative formed by small and medium specialty coffee producers whose plantations lie between the Alta Mogiana and Sul de Minas regions. It was founded in 2001 by Laersos Faleiros along with other local producers and has made a significant contribution to the development of the region and the production of specialty coffee.
