Nicaragua Byron Corrales, 250 g – filter

The Los Pinos farm was founded in the 19th century by German settlers, and then the Corrales family bought it.

In the twentieth century, a military conflict began in Nicaragua and the family was forced to leave the farm. Upon returning home, the new farm was given the name “Los Pinos” (Pines) in memory of the old days when Don Byron’s grandfather planted pine trees next to coffee. The developed root system of coniferous trees retained moisture in underground soils and thus provided constant nutrition for coffee plants.

Today Byron Corrales represents the 3rd generation of coffee growers at the Los Pinos farm. The man preserves the old traditions and family secrets of the production of the “right” coffee, forgotten by many modern farmers during the years of industrialization.

In the 80s of the last century, there were not so many open opportunities to export coffee abroad. But being absolutely confident in the quality of his bean, Byron Corrales went to the US to look for investors. Although the commercialization of coffee in the United States did not succeed that year, Don Byron made useful contacts as a result of the trip, with the help of which he was able to establish international cooperation with successful purchasing companies in the future.

One of the pivotal meetings of that time was meeting Paul Katzeff, who later created a certified bean evaluation laboratory and led the SCA in Nicaragua. These events can be considered progressive changes in the world of specialty coffee throughout the country, as they created an opportunity for everyone to learn and improve the level of bean cultivation in the country.
