Farm: Kindeng Mill

This coffee comes to us from Kindeng Dry Mill, located in the Jikawa Province, Papua New Guinea. It is a blend of coffee purchased from approximately 1,500 smallholder farmers living in the Kindeng and Arufa municipalities. Naturally processed coffees from Papua New Guinea are quite rare, but we have been happily sourcing them since the early 2020s. For this process, only the ripest cherries are used, as the full drying and curing process takes an extended period of time.

After harvest, the cherries are hand-sorted and placed on raised beds for an average period of 3–4 weeks until fully dried. During this time, the cherries are regularly turned by hand to ensure even moisture content throughout the lot. Variety: Arusha, Bourbon, Typica – Kindeng Mill (Natural) Although this lot is not traceable to a single variety, it is composed of Arusha, Bourbon, and Typica — the most commonly cultivated varieties in this region. Region: Western Highlands – Kindeng Mill (Natural) The primary source of income in the Western Highlands is coffee, which accounts for 20% of the country’s total production. The area is densely forested, with scenic mountains and river valleys, experiencing cool average temperatures. Generational farmers have grown coffee under shade, alongside other subsistence crops for personal use. Today, specialty coffees from areas such as Waghi Valley are gaining recognition for the unique flavor profile of the region.
