Honduras El Jardin, 250 g – filter

The El Jardin farm was established in 1981. Mario Samuel Mejia Rodriguez inherited it from his father. The family includes four generations of coffee producers dedicated to creating a high-quality product.

El Jardin is located at an altitude of 1,400-1,650 meters above sea level in the La Paz region of southwestern Honduras, near the Montesquieu Reserve. The indigenous Lenca people call this area “the place of stone” due to its mountainous terrain covered with dense jungle. La Paz boasts clay-loam soils and a temperate climate. Here, the coffee trees receive less sunlight, resulting in smaller yields but better quality.

Finca El Jardín is divided into two sections: 20 hectares producing high-quality coffee rated at 85+, and 12 hectares yielding lower-quality coffee rated at 83. In addition to coffee, avocados are also grown on the farm. The farm strives to work in harmony with the environment, using organic and some chemical fertilizers. For instance, they utilize coffee processing by-products as organic fertilizers. Furthermore, experimental plots with trees have been implemented to improve water retention in the summer and prevent soil degradation from heavy winter rains.
